Updated: What’s ahead in 2017 for Healthcare Capital Development in Ontario

Updated May 4, 2017 – Premier Kathleen Wynne was joined by Dr. Eric Hoskins, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, and Charles Sousa, Minister of Finance, at Trillium Health Partners in Mississauga to announce the new funding. These annoucements build upon what Ontario has released in its infrastructure update: BuildON 2017. The following points are now the highlights regarding hospital capital development in Ontario:

  • As part of the 2017 Budget, Ontario is proposing to spend an additional $9 billion to support the construction of new hospital projects across the province (Source: May 2017).
  • The province will provide $20 billion in capital grants to hospitals over the next 10 years to support essential hospital infrastructure development (Source: May 2017).
  • Over the next five years, 18 hospitals will complete major renovations or rebuilds with 19 more major capital projects planned for expansion and renovation of existing facilities.
